Baseball and Softball Registration at the DISC

Registration for the Decatur Park District’s Youth Baseball and & Softball Leagues for ages 5 – 15 begins Feb. 7 at the DISC. A coed T-Ball league for ages 3 – 4 will also be offered this year.

Audience Conduct Ordinance Approved in Monticello

An ordinance outlining audience conduct at Monticello City Council meetings has been approved by city aldermen. It outlaws defamatory comments and disruptive noises at council meetings.

Decatur Blood Drive This Sunday

The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive Sun. from 9 to 1 at First Church of the Nazarene on W. Hickory Point Rd. in Decatur.

Crime Rates are Down in Sangamon County

Sangamon County Undersheriff, Jack Campbell, reports crime rates have dropped in every reported category. He says Sangamon County is a safer place to live, raise a family, and conduct business.

Who Says There’s No Such Thing as a Free Breakfast

Over the next two years all Decatur schools with kindergarten through 8th grade will implement universal breakfast in the classroom. The program will make breakfast free to all students.

Pizza Delivery Driver Robbed

A pizza delivery driver was held up at gunpoint on Bluebird Court in Springfield. Three men approached the guy – one pointed a gun at him and took the food he was delivering.

Lake Shore Drive Lane Closures

Keep in mind, the east and westbound lanes of Lake Shore Dr. between 16th St. and Lakeview Ave. in Decatur are reduced to one lane each during the day through Wed. Crews are doing sewer lining work.

Fire at Hilton Hotel in Springfield

Fire caused minor damage at the Hilton Hotel in Springfield. The fire was contained to the laundry room and there was no damage to the building. No word on the cause of the fire.

Help Signing Up for Health Insurance

The Macon County Health Department will hold a health insurance marketplace enrollment event today at the Argenta Public Library from 9 to 1. In-person counselors will be on hand.

Two School Districts Consider Reorganization

The school districts of Cerro Gordo and Bement in Piatt County are considering reorganization between the two districts. A feasibility study suggests deactivation of Bement High School.
