Progress City Going to the Dogs

Progress City, USA, at College Park in Decatur, will hold four AKC all-breed dog shows April 24 through the 27. Hundreds of dogs from all over the country will be there.

New Surgical Center at St. John’s in Springfield

A new surgical center at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield will open within a few months. Dr. Charles Lucore, a practicing cardiologist at St. John’s for more than 20 years, will be the new CEO.

Another Neimann Foods Coming to Decatur

Neimann Foods is building another County Market on the west side of Decatur and will hold a job fair in a few months. The market should be open around Thanksviving.

Mas Hit by Train in Lincoln

A man was hit by a train Fri. night on Sangamon St. in Lincoln. The Amtrak train was on a run from Chicago to San Antonio. Lincoln police are still investigating.

Double Shooting in Springfield

Following a double shooting on South Wirt St. in Springfield, Anthony McGrone, 28, is dead and a 36-year-old man – wounded. Witnesses say they saw two men running from the area.

Cruisin’ Eldorado is Back

Cruisin’ Eldorado in Dacatur is back by popular request – the first Cruise is Sat, April 19 with other planned in June, Aug, and Oct.

Two Arrested for Selling Alcohol to Minors

Two people were arrested in Macon County for selling liquor to a minor. Employees at both Casey’s in Long Creek and the Circle K on Baltimore at Route 36 alegedly sold booze to minors.

Layoffs at Solo Cup in Urbana

31 people will be laid off at Solo Cup in Urbana – another 19 will be reassigned within the plant. Dart Corporation says the layoffs are due to changing needs in the food service business.

Man Found Guilty of Shooting Decatur Teen

A Chicago man, Dennis Davis, 30, has been found guilty of murder in the 2011 shooting death of Mishyra Wheeler, 17, in Decatur. Davis will be sentenced on May 20.

Two People Shot in Champaign

Two people who were shot over the weekend on Bellfontaine St. in Champaign are being tight-lipped. A 23 and 24 year old are keeping quiet as to who did the shooting.
