The next Decatur Park District free concert is Wed. evening at the Millikin University Quad. The Greater Decatur Youth Band plays at 6, with local bands at 7.

New Law for Getting Driver’s License in Illinois

A new law takes effect tomorrow requiring anyone 18 to 20 who didn’t take driver’s ed to complete a six-hour training course before applying for a driver’s license. The course includes a variety of critical traffic safety components.

Street Closures for Decatur’s July 4th Celebration

Several streets in Decatur will be closed, or partially closed, for the Independence Day Concert and fireworks Fri. evening. Follow signs and police direction – and – be patient.

Police Serve Search Warrant and Make an Arrest in Decatur

The Macon County Special Response Team and Decatur Police issued a search warrant at the Oakland Apartment Complex on West Mound Rd. They grabbed cocaine and some cash. Saville McKnight-Byars was arrested on several drug charges.

Registration for MidState Summer Soccer Camp in Decatur

Decatur’s Parking Lot E Changes Parking Time Limits

Starting this week, parking time limits in Parking Lot E on the corner of Main & William in Decatur goes from a 3 hour time limit to 2 hours.

Shimkus Rep to Hold Office Hours in Lovington

A representative of Congressman John Shimkus will hold public office hours in Moultrie County July 9 from 10:30 to noon at the Lovington Village Hall on South Railroad St.

New Associate Corps Officer for Decatur Salvation Army

Captain Ruth Sellen has been named Associate Corps Officer for The Salvation Army of Macon County. She comes to Decatur after 4 years at a Corps South Dakota.

Decatur City Council to Decide on Treating City Sewers with Herbicide

This week, Decatur City Council decides on hiring a contractor to treat city sewers with herbicide to kill any roots in the pipes. If council ok’s it, the $200,000 project would start immediately and be done in late 2016.

Still Time to Sign Up for Summer Strings

Students in grades 1 through 9 can still sign up for the second session of the Decatur Park District’s Summer Strings program. Practices are on Tuesdays and Thursdays, July 1 to the 17 at Garfield Montessori Magnet School.
