Dove in Decatur Holding A Night of Awareness

The Dove Domestic Violence Program is holding a “A Night of Awareness” Sept. 25 at the Decatur Public Library’s Madden Auditorium. The event is open to the public.

Appointments for LIHEAP Being Scheduled

CAPCIL has begun scheduling appointments for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program – LIHEAP. The service area includes DeWitt, Logan, Menard, and Piatt counties.

Lexington Apartments in Decatur Have Been Debugged

Recently, the Decatur Housing Authority has responded to about 15 cases of bed bugs at The Lexington Apartments. In one case, a man threw out his bed and was sleeping on an air mattress. Bug spraying didn’t work – but, an exterminator did. Now, no more bugs.

Macon County Art Project Grants

Art project grants are available from the Decatur Area Arts Council for schools and non- profits in Macon County, and Clinton, Pana, and Taylorville. Grant deadlines are Oct. 1, Feb. 2, and May 1.

Piatt County Referendum Questions

Piatt County ballots will have 10 referendum questions this Nov. No single ballot will include all 10, but voters who live in the Monticello School District and Northern Piatt Fire Protection could have as many as eight.

Another scam in Macon County – someone calls and says there’s a problem with your computer. They’ll be happy to fix it – just give them your credit card info. Don’t do it, it’s a scam.

Taylorville Schools Having a Hard Time Meeting Unfunded State Mandates

Taylorville Schools Superintendent, Dr. Greg Fursteneau, says it’s getting tougher and tougher for schools to meet unfunded state mandates. Illinois Schools have only been receiving 89% of their usual funding.

Monticello Recreation Ride

The first Monticello-based Ride for Recreation will be held Oct. 11. The ride leaves the Livingston Center and includes routes of 10, 20, and 36 miles, and a 60-miler that goes into Macon County.

Decatur Street Fight

A street fight last weekend on West Macon St. in Decatur may have started when one man kissed another man at a party. Four people were stabbed. Decatur Police arrested one 18-year-old and say more arrests are possible.

The Kincaid Power Station has been Sold

EquiPower Resources Corporation, has sold the Kincaid Power Station to Kynegy, Incorporated. EquiPower bought the station less than a year ago. The transaction should take place by the end of first quarter 2015.
