The DISC and Scovill Golf Course Holiday Hours

The DISC will close this afternoon at 5, and will be open tomorrow 8 to 1. Scovill Golf Course is open until 3 today, and will be closed tomorrow.

Contested and Non-Contested Spring Elections

Three of four aldermen seats on the Monticello City Council will be contested next April. Most Piatt County communities will not see contested elections. Apparently, there’ll be two on the ballot for the Bement Village Board.

Macon County’s Retail Theft Numbers are Low

Compared to bigger cities, Macon County’s holiday retail theft numbers are low – just 13 at this time last year, and only 23 so far this year. It may have something to do with previous stings conducted by Macon County Sheriffs during the holidays.

Baseball Clinic at the DISC

The Decatur Park District’s Baseball Instructional Clinic for ages 8 to 14 meets Saturdays, Jan. 17 to 31 from 1 to 2:30 at the DISC. Millikin coaches and players will teach fundamentals of the game.

New Driving Law in Illinois

A new law takes effect tomorrow that allows Illinois motorists to drive without an up-to-date vehicle registration sticker – but, you have to have a receipt showing a sticker purchase. It’s valid for one month.

MCHD Closing at Noon Today

The Macon County Health Department will close at noon today and will be closed all day tomorrow, New Year’s Day. The Women, Infants, and Children Office will be closed Fri. for completion of computer upgrades.

Christian County Sheriffs Forming Major Crime Unit

The Christian County Sheriff’s Office is forming a major crime unit. It’ll include county deputies, state troopers, and officers from Taylorville and Pana police. The unit will handle cases such as rape and murder.

Another New Law Next Year

Parents and guardians need to be aware of a new law that goes into effect January 1 in Illinois. Adults can be fined up to $2000 for allowing those under 21 to drink in vehicles, trailers, campers, or boats under their ownership or control.

Recent Expansion at RCC in Decatur

The expansion at the early childhood education center at RCC in Decatur includes the addition of a teacher workspace, a gym area and classrooms. The center can now accommodate about 70 kids – 20 more than before.

More Money in Your Pocket

Illinois taxpayers will get a bit more in their paychecks next year. The income tax rate drops back to 3.75% from 5% starting Jan. 1. A family with of four with an income of $50,000 will keep $930 more than they did last year.
