UI Champaign Expects $15 Million Funding Cut

UI-Champaign officials are expecting a $15 million cut in funding from a new state budget deal approved by lawmakers. No faculty or staff furloughs or layoffs are expected, and students shouldn’t be affected by the expected cut. Officials say the state owes the university about $297 million.

Congressman Rodney Davis will be the featured speaker at the Decatur Chamber Business Breakfast Wed. morning from 7 to 8 – doors open at 6:45. It’ll be held at the Decatur Club on West Prairie Avenue.

Jasper St. Turn Lane Closed in Decatur

The northbound turn lane of Jasper St. onto Illinois St. in Decatur, will be closed this morning, until around noon today. Crews will be replacing a guardrail.

Public Info Day at Lake Shelbyville

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will hold a public information day at the Lake Shelbyville Visitor Center, on State Hwy 16, this Thurs. morning at 10:30. Get an update on the lake, construction facility updates, volunteer opportunities, and special events.

CIPAC Endorses Decatur Candidates

The Central Illinois Political Action Committee has endorsed Mike McElroy for Decatur Mayor, and Lisa Gregory, David Horn, and Dana Ray for Decatur City Council in the April 7 election. CIPAC says the election will be significant to further economic prosperity in Decatur.

Community Health Fair Coming to Decatur

The 2015 World Health Day Community Health Fair will be held Thurs. April 9 from 10 to 1 at Grace United Methodist Church on N. Main St. in Decatur. There’ll be free health screenings and demonstrations.

Tim Gleason has a Few Challenges

Decatur’s new City Manager, Tim Gleason, has only been on the job a few days and already has his eye on a few challenges in Decatur. He said, “the city will see economic development and some neighborhoods will see changes in appearance.”

A Warning to Shelbyville Dog Owners

Shelbyville Postmaster, Dawn Hagan, requests that all resident’s dogs be leashed and under control when mail carriers are delivering. Two local carriers have been bit recently. There is a leash law in town.

Decatur’s Penguin in the Park is Tomorrow

The 10th annual Penguin in the Park 5K Run/Walk in Decatur is tomorrow morning at 9 in Fairview Park. A post-race party will be held in Millikin’s Griswold Gym. All roads in the park will be closed from 9 to 10 tomorrow morning.

Decatur Alzheimer’s Association Needs Volunteers

The Greater Illinois Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association in Decatur is looking for volunteers. Representatives would be responsible for presenting brief education programs in the community, and attend community events and health fairs.
