New Attractions at Decatur Celebration

The Decatur Celebration runs Aug. 6 through the 8 with new attractions, including a BMX stunt show, an interactive Air Force jet, a micro brew compition, and VIP passes. Entertainment includes Vanilla Ice, and Kool and the Gang.

Attendance Down at Springfield Historical Sites

Several historic sites in Springfield have seen a decline in attendance despite last year’s increase in tourism statewide. It could be due in part to a wet tourist season and reduced hours at the sites due to state budget cuts.

Railroad Track Repairs on W. Grove Rd. in Decatur

West Grove Rd. in Decatur, at the railroad tracks just west of US Rte 51, will be closed next week. Crews will be doing track repairs.

Monticello City Council Okays Two Zoning Requests

Monticello city council approved two zoing requests this week. One to build a duplex on property at 635 E. Meyer St, and one to construct an accessory structure at 712 W. Wilson St.

Watch a Meteor Shower in Blue Mound

The Macon County Conservation District invites you to observe a meteor shower during a special event Aug. 11 at the Griswold Conservation Area in Blue Mound from 10 to midnight. It’s free and open to the public.

RV Center in Decatur is Moving

The Jerry Pressley RV Center has been on North 22nd St. in Decatur since 1987 but needs more room. The business is moving to a 7 acre site off Boyd Rd. in Oct. or Nov.

Seat Belt Usage in Illinois at an all Time High

The Illinois DOT says seat belt usage by drivers and front seat passengers has reached an all time high in the state. The rate is 95.2% – up from last year’s previous high of 94.1.

A Section of 1st St. in Decatur Closed for Repairs

The 100 block of 1st Dr. in Decatur, is closed this morning and will be through this coming Tues. afternoon around 4. Crews are doing some street repairs.

Campus Visit Day at MU

Millikin University holds another summer campus visit day tomorrow for prospective high school students and their families. Check-in for the visit day starts tomorrow morning at 9 in Shilling Hall on campus.
