MDSO Performs this Saturday Evening

The Millikin-Decatur Symphony Orchestra continues its 2015 and 16 performance season this Sat. evening at 7:30 in Kirkland Fine Arts Center. The guest conductor will be Dr. Sergey Bogza.

Logan County Board Member Resigns

After 5 years on the Logan County Board, Andy Anderson has resigned. He said his decision was based solely on circumstances beyond his control affecting his retirement benefits.

Champaign County Shelter Closing

The men’s shelter at the Salvation Army of Champaign County is closing in a couple of week due to a lack of funding. It would cost around $120,000 to keep the shelter open through Sept. – money the shelter doesn’t have.

Pedestrian Killed in Decatur has been Identified

The man killed while crossing Pershing Rd. in Decatur Sat. morning has been identified at James Hoshauer, 65, of Decatur. The name of the driver in the pickup truck that hit him has not been released.

Critter Egg Hunt at Scovill Zoo

Scovill Zoo holds its annual free Critter Egg Hunt Sat. afternoon March 26, at 1:30. Kids to age 10 will search for treats on the zoo’s front lawn – and visit the Easter Bunny.

License Plate Late Fee Renewals Skyrocket

Illinois lawmakers want to suspend late fees for license plate renewals, which have already brought in $1.2 million this year. No more reminders by mail means a significant increase in late fees.

Decatur/Forsyth Classic is Changing Dates

After 31 years, the Decatur Forsyth Classic is changing dates – from Mid-June to Aug. 8 to the 14. Lots of community events are planned for tournament week. Stay tuned.

Two House Fires in Pana May be Arson

When Pana Crews responded to a house fire on West Orange St, they noticed the house next door was also on fire. Both houses were vacant – there were no injuries. Investigators suspect both fires are the result of arson.

LaCrosse League at South Shores Park

The Decatur Park District holds its Lacrosse League for ages 8 to 14 each Tues. March 29 through May 10 at South Shores Park. There’s a 1 hour practice and a 30 minute game.

Watch Out – Another Phone Scam in Macon County

Macon County Sheriffs warn of a phone scam where someone calls claiming to be Deputy saying you missed jury duty, pay a fine now with Green Dot cards, or be arrested. Don’t fall for it – it’s a scam.
