Monticello’s First Ever Triathlon

Kirby Medical Center will host the first ever triathlon in Monticello Aug. 16. It includes a 300 meter swim, a 10 to 15 mile bike ride, and a 3.1 mile run.

Illinois’ Big Sister of the Year

The winner of the 2016 Illinois Big Sister of the year award is — Gretchen Karcher, of Decatur. She volunteers in the Macon County Community-Based Mentoring Program.

Kincaid PD Looking for Armed Robber

Kincaid Police are looking for the man who robbed a woman of money and jewelry at knifepoint at the American Legion in Kincaid. The guy is in his mid 20’s, about 6 feet with a thin build.

25th Annual Duck Derby

The 25th Annual Duck Derby will be held May 7th at the Children’s Museum in Decatur. This year there’s a separate Kids’ Duck Race. Proceeds from the Derby support the Children’s Museum.

New Brewpub in Monticello

A brewpub and restaurant hopes to locate in the soon-to-be-vacant Monticello United Methodist Church building. Monarch Brewing Company has applied for conditional use permits. The church is moving to Monticello’s east side.

Mowe-aqua Wins Water Award

At the recent Illinois Rural Water Association conference, water from Moweaqua won the “Best Tasting Water” award. Now, on to the National Rural Water Association’s Taste Test next Feb. in Washington D.C.

New Use for Decatur’s Ice House

The Ice House in Decatur has been a lot of things over the years – a bar, machine shop, pizza place – now it’s the home of New Vision Church. The church began about eight years ago and has grown quickly.

Nightmusic Concert at Millikin University

The Chamber brass group Nightmusic performs in concert tomorrow evening at 7:30 in Perkinson Music Center on Millikin University’s campus. It’s free and open to the public.

Dove’s Domestic Violence Training

Training is available on the issues surrounding domestic violence April 11 through the 27 at Dove in Decatur on S. Union. There’s a $150 fee. Dove provides services to Macon, Moultrie, Shelby, DeWitt and Piatt counties.

N. Franklin St. Sidewalk Closed

The sidewalk at 125 North Franklin St. in Decatur will be closed tomorrow morning at 7 all the way through June 30. Crews will be doing demolition work. Traffic lanes will not be affected.
