Ford recalls 202,000 cars, pickups and SUVs

Ford Motor Company is recalling nearly 202,000 pickup trucks, SUV’s and cars because the automatic transmissions can suddenly downshift.
Ford says the transmission recall includes the 2011 and 2012 F-150 and the 2012 Expedition, Mustang, and Lincoln Navigator.
The malfunction is attributed to a software problem in a speed sensor.
According to reports, the sensor malfunction results in the the vehicle inadvertently downshifting to first fear without provocation.
Three crashes have been reported without any person injured. Ford Dealerships will inspect the sensors for trouble codes and make the appropriate repair.
If you own any of the vehicle models mentioned, go to your local Ford dealership.

Blood Drives coming to Decatur in May

Just in time for summer, the Decatur YMCA is hosting a community blood drive.
Potential donors must be at least 17 years old.
16 years olds need a with parental permission form, which is available through, and a photo I.D. is required to donate.
It is scheduled for Thursday, May 12, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 220 W. McKinley Avenue, inside the Multipurpose Room.
Other blood drives in the area in May include:
The Law Enforcement Center, May 10/6:30 a.m.—-11:30 a.m./333 S. Franklin Street, Decatur;
Eisenhower High School, May 13/ 8:30 a.m.—3:30 p.m./1200 S. 16th Street, Decatur, and;
St. Patrick School, May 13/ 2:30 p.m.—5:30 p.m./ 412 Jackson Street, Decatur.

Mumps Outbreak at EIU

10 students at Eastern Illinois University have been diagnosed with Mumps. EIU officials are asking any student who has been diagnosed with Mumps to self-isolate during the contagious period.

Several Saddles Stolen in Champaign County

Champaign County Sheriffs are looking for whoever stole over $10,000 in merchandise from the Gordyville Arena in Gifford. Items stolen include a Circle Y Show Saddle and an RS Work Saddle.

Fatal Crash in Logan County

Logan County Sheriffs are investigating a fatal crash at West Lipp Rd. and 600th St. in Mt. Pulaski. Brandon Sizmore, 23, was killed when he lost control of his car and rolled over several times. Sizmore was ejected.

Sidewalk on West Prairie Ave. Partially Closed

The sidewalk in front of 247 West Prairie Ave. will be partially closed during the day now through the end of May. Crews are working on a building at that spot.

Macon County Party Lottery this Afternoon

A Party Lottery will be held this afternoon at 3 in the Macon County Clerk’s Office on South Main St. in Decatur. The Party Lottery determines the order in which the major political parties will appear on the General Election ballot.

House Fire on West Cushing in Decatur

Decatur crews responded to a small bedroom fire in a home on West Cushing. The fire was contained to that one bedroom but the rest of the house sustained smoke damage.

‘Purple Rain’ at Lincoln Square Theatre

The Lincoln Square Theatre in Downtown Decatur will show the Prince movie, Purple Rain, tomorrow evening. Doors open at 7, showtime at 8. Get there early and listen to the best of Prince songs before the movie.
