MU’s Homecoming Continues Over the Weekend

Millikin University’s 2016 Homecoming Celebration continues today through Sun. MU’s Homecoming Parade kicks off at 10 tomorrow morning, and the Big Blue Football Team takes on North Park University at 6 tomorrow afternoon.

N. Edward St. Reopens this Afternoon

The 600 and 700 blocks of North Edward St. in Decatur, between West Cerro Gordo and West Green Sts, will reopen this afternoon around 3. Crews have been repairing a water main.

Possible Referendum Questions in Monticello

Monticello school district voters may have a chance to choose which comes first at the high school – academic or athletic upgrades, or both. Further discussion comes at a special school board meeting Oct. 12.

Prostate Cancer Screenings at DMH

Decatur Memorial Hospital will hold free prostate cancer screenings today 9 to 5 at the Cancer Care Center on W. McKinley Ave. No appointment needed.

Road Closures Near Twin Forks Wind Farm

Drummer Rd. near the Twin Forks Wind Farm between Duroc and Washington Rds, and Wise Rd. between Drummer and Kenney Rds, will be closed today for cement stabilization. Glasgow Rd. between Hampshire and Duroc Rds. will be closed for rock paving.

Shelby County Voter Registration

Folks in Shelby County need to register by Oct. 11 in order to vote in the Nov. election. No voter registration at polling places – Shelby County doesn’t meet population guidelines.

Fire at Del Carmen’s Pizza

Decatur crews responded to a fire at Del Carmen’s Pizza at 22 St. and Prairie Ave. Everyone got out safely, there were no injuries. No word yet on how the fire started. The building sustained significant damage.

Run with the Staley Striders

Runners ages 6 to 18 can run with the Staley Striders Cross Country Club Oct. 5 through Nov. 19. Practices are Tues, Weds. and Thurs. 4:15 to 5:15 at the Fairview Park Tennis Complex in Decatur.

A Section of S. 44th St. Remains Closed

South 44 St. in Decatur, from Cantrell St. to Cleveland Ave. remains closed through tomorrow afternoon around 5. Crews are installing a water main.

Urbana Man Pleads Guilty to Murder

An Urbana man has pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in connection with the death of his wife. Shaun Thomas, 36, admitted to killing Jessica Thomas, 37. As part of a plea deal, he’ll receive no more than 45 years in prison.
