Junior Golf Classes at the DISC

The Decatur Park District’s junior golf classes begin Nov. 3 and run through Dec. 21 for ages 3 to 13. All sessions are at the DISC’s Indoor Golf Center. Register online at

A Section of E. Grove Rd. Closed this Week

The 700 block of East Grove Rd. in Decatur will be closed to “through” traffic, between South Franklin St. and Forrest Green Dri, this morning through this Fri. afternoon around 3. Crews are repairing a water main.

Over 7,000 Ballots Processed in Macon County

So far, over 7,000 ballots have been processed through the Macon County Clerk’s office. The totals include absentee ballots by mail, early voting, and grace period voting.

Decatur’s 42nd Annual Turkey Trot

The Decatur Park District’s 42nd Annual Turkey Trot is set for Nov. 19 at Fairview Park. Choose from a 5 or 10K run, a 5K walk, or a 1/2 mile Turkey Tot Trot. Register online at or at the DISC.

East Cleveland Ave. in Decatur, from South MLK Jr. Dr. eastward for one block, will be closed this morning through this Fri. afternoon around 5. Crews are reconstructing the street.

Voting Rolls in Macon County Growing

Since Sept. 1, 1,351 voters have been added to the rolls in Macon County. There are now 76,276 active voters on the list, compared to 75,200 in 2014.

MU Players Kneel During National Anthem

Several veterans attended the MU football game Sat. and quickly left after the national anthem. Once again, some of the Millikin players kneeled during the anthem, most of the team stood.

Cubs loose

Corey Kluber earned his second win in this World Series and the Cleveland Indians moved within one victory of their first championship since 1948, routing the Chicago Cubs 7-2 Saturday night with home runs by Carlos Santana and Jason Kipnis.

Leading the Series 3-1, Cleveland can finish off it at Wrigley Field tonight, when Trevor Bauer starts for the Indians and Jon Lester for the Cubs.

Kluber limited Chicago to five hits in six innings, becoming the first pitcher to win Games 1 and 4 since Cincinnati’s Jose Rijo in 1990.

Crash at 2am

The Macon County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a crash that temporarily shut down a portion of Illinois Route 48 early Friday

The crash happened south of Boody at about 2:00 a.m. According to the investigation into the crash, an SUV overturned near Nevada Road, and was then hit by a truck-tractor semi-trailer.

Authorities have not released any information pertaining to potential injuries sustained from this crash.. The investigation is ongoing.

Body indentified

COLES COUNTY – The Champaign County Coroner has released the identity of a man who died from injuries sustained in a motorcycle crash near Mattoon Thursday morning.

Coroner Duane Northrup says the man, identified as Juan Vasquez, 40, was pronounced dead at 4:03 p.m. Northrup says Vasquez was reportedly not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, and that no autopsy will be performed.
