Piatt County Democrats will hold a community forum this Sun. afternoon at 3:30 on the repeal of the Affordable Care Act. It’ll be held at the White Heath Community Building on South Orange St.

93 Year Old Woman Dies in Champaign House Fire

Champaign crews responded to a house fire on West Clark St. Autopsy results show Rachel Dyal, 93, died from injuries sustained in the fire. No word yet on how it started.

Decatur Woman Sentenced for Medicaid Fraud

A Decatur woman has been sentenced to 4 years probation after pleading guilty to defrauding Medicaid programs for more than half a year. Cassandra Miller, 51, was ordered to perform 50 hours of community service and pay just over $5,000 in restitution.

Monticello School Superintendent Retiring – in 2021

The Monticello school district will be looking for a new superintendent – in 2021. Due to Illinois’ financial instability, Dr. Vic Zimmerman will retire at the end of the 2020-21 school year. He’s been superintendent since 2007 and has 35 years in education.

Logan County Board Approves Pay Increase

The Logan County Board approved a 3% pay increase for County Deputies. Other employees of the Sheriffs Department will get a raise of 2.75%.

Taylorville Firefighters Battle Blaze

Taylorville crews responded to a house fire on North Rd. in Stonington. No one was hurt – the home was a total loss. No word yet on how the fire started.

Urbana Man Pleads Guilty to Fatally Shooting his Son

An Urbana man, David Farrell, 67, has pleaded guilty to fatally shooting his son, Matthew Farrell, 29, during an argument at the family home. Both men had been drinking. Farrell will be sentenced April 10.

Redbird Rookies Baseball League

Redbird Rookies is a free recreational baseball league for boys and girls ages 5 to 13 who have never played ball before. Register at the DISC Mar. 8 through April 24. The season begins June 3.

The Mill in Logan County to Become a Museum

The Mill on Route 66 in Logan County will open for the first time ever as a Route 66 museum April 29. A request has been made to proclaim that day as “Route 66 Day in Lincoln”.

One Store Out, One Store in at Hickory Point Mall

One goes out, one comes in – MC Sports is closing at the Hickory Point Mall in Forsyth. A new TJ Maxx is expected to open later this year.
