It’s Membership Appreciation Night at the DISC. This evening from 5 to 7, enjoy a bounce house, bubble balls, music, light refreshments, and lots of giveaways.

Lawmakers Want to Raise the Age to Buy Tobacco

Some Illinois lawmakers in Springfield want to raise the minimum age to buy cigarettes and other tobacco products to 21. Currently in the state you can buy and possess tobacco at age 18.

A Section of Duroc Rd. Closed On and Off Today

A 1 mile section of Duroc Rd. in Decatur, from Bearsdale to Bantam Rd, will be closed periodically today to traffic in both directions. Crews are working on replacing a culvert.

Healthiest Counties in Illinois

A recent study from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation ranks Monroe County the healthiest in the state – Alexander County, the least healthy. Shelby County is ranked 13th, Piatt 15th, Champaign 41st, Sangamon 67th, and Macon County is ranked 83rd.

Overlook Adventure Park Opens for the Season

Overlook Adventure Park, including mini golf and a new high ropes course, opens for the season tomorrow. Weather permitting, opening day hours are 10 to 10.

Part of Janvrin Rd. Closed On and Off Today

A 1 mile section of Janvrin Rd. in Decatur, from Duroc to School Rd, will be periodically closed today to traffic in both directions. Crews are replacing a culvert.

High Levels of Poverty in Macon County

Macon County ranks in the upper half of the state when it comes to per capita income – but, has high levels of poverty. 28% of Macon County children live in poverty – the 10th-most in the state, and 9% higher than the state average.

Election Day Voter Registration

Polls will be open next Tues, Election Day, in Macon County, 6a to 7p. To register to vote that day, you’ll need two forms of ID – one has to have your current address.

Annual Easter Egg Hunt in Shelbyville

The annual Shelbyville Community Easter Egg Hunt for kids 2 to 8 is Sat. moring April 8 at 10 in Forest park. If it rains, the hunt will be held in the Shelbyville High School gym.

Decatur Board of Education Meets Tomorrow Morning

The Decatur Board of Education meets in Special Open Session tomorrow morning at 7:15 in the Keil Administration Building. Members will discuss an Interim Contract for the new Superintendent of Schools.
