Baseball Team Considering Video Gambling Machines

The Springfield Sliders baseball team is considering adding five video gambling machines to the club room at Robin Roberts Stadium. There may be a trial run of the machines before the end of this season.

Troopers Looking for Hit-and-Run Driver

ISP is searching for Turhan Sims, 29, in connection with a hit and tun near Champaign St. and Bradley Ave. in Champaign. Sims allegedly ran a stop sign and smashed into a State Police cruiser, and two other vehicles. No one was hurt.

Cause Determined for E. Walnut St. House Fire

Investigators believe food left on the stove caused extensive fire damage to the kitchen of a home on East Walnut St. in Decatur. The one person inside got out safely – there were no injuries.

Monticello Farmers Market Back in Business

Take note for next week – the Monticello Farmer’s Market has returned to the corner of Livingston and State Sts. The market is held each Thurs. afternoon 3 to 6.

Agree on a Budget, or Spend July 4th in Session

Gov. Rauner has threatened to keep lawmakers in session over the July 4 holiday unless there’s an agreement on a spending plan by the end of today. Illinois has gone without a budget since 2015.

Installation of New Manhole on Susan Rd.

Weather permitting, Susan Rd. in Decatur will be closed to “thru” traffic through this afternoon at 3:30, Crews are installing a new manhole in front of 3245 Susan Rd.

Decatur Man Pleads Not Guilty to Drug and Weapons Charges

The Decatur man wounded in an officer-involved shooting pleaded not guilty this week to drug and weapons related charges. Donald Redmon, 33, will be back in court Aug. 14. Dallas Vorties, 29, involved in the incident with Redmon, will be back in court Aug. 15.

Greater Decatur Youth Band Concerts

The Greater Decatur Youth Band performs July 5 on the Millikin University Quad. The band will play at the Kiwanis Park Ice Cream Social July 19. Both concerts begin at 6pm.
