Labor Day Patrols

Heads-up if you traveling for labor day. Police across Illinois to be out in force — looking for speeders and drunk drivers. 200 local law police depts are participating. Last year, 23 people died in motor vehicle crashes in Illinois over the holiday weekend.

Final Day of Farm Progress Show

Today is the final day of the 2017 Farm Progress Show in Decatur. Corn harvest demonstrations will be held 11 to 1 today. Tillage demonstrations are this afternoon 2 to 3.

Primary Election Petition Packets

Petition packets are available for the March 20 General Primary Election in the County Clerk’s Office on Main St. in Decatur. Three offices will be nominated in the primary – County Clerk, Sheriff, and County Treasurer.

School Bus Involved in Minor Accident

An Anna Waters Head Start school bus collided with a car on West Grand St, near North Edward St. in Decatur. No injuries and only slight damage.

Labor Day Pops Concert in Central Park

For the 21st consecutive year, the Millikin-Decatur Symphony Orchestra performs its Labor Day Pops Concert Mon. beginning at 6pm. It’ll be at Central Park on North Franklin St. in downtown Decatur.

Electronic Billing Now Available in Decatur

Decatur is now offering Electronic Billing for your Municipal Utilities bill. You’ll get your bill by email rather than in the mail. Sign up for your paperless bill at decaturil.gov/ebill.

Downtown Decatur Bar & Grill Closes Permanently

Locals 101 Bar and Grill in downtown Decatur has closed its doors for the final time. Former owner, Matt Sites, says there are no plans to reopen the business.

Meeting Today to Avert Decatur School Bus Strike

No time frame has been mentioned, but the union representing Decatur school bus drivers has authorized a strike against Alltown, the new owners of the fleet. Wages and vacation time are the main issues. The union is scheduled to meet with Alltown officials today.

Daily Horse Demonstrations at Farm Progress Show

One of the highlights of the 2017 Farm Progress Show in Decatur are daily demonstrations from lifelong horseman, Ray Ainsworth. Performances are at 10 and 1 today and tomorrow.

Federal Grant for SIU Family Medicine-Decatur

A federal grant enables the SIU Center for Family Medicine-Decatur to become a Federally Qualified Health Center. Services include prenatal to geriatric care. Starting in Sept, the center will be open Weds. until 6pm.
