Unemployment Rates Down in All Illinois Counties

Unemployment rates were down over-the-year in all 102 Illinois counties. The state’s unemployment rate was 5.1% this Sept, compared to 6.5% in Sept. a year ago.

Decatur Public Library Awarded Grant

The Decatur Public Library has received a $12,200 grant from Illinois’s Next Generation program. The money will be used to make technology available to children who lack Internet access at home.

Fire Hydrant Repair Closes Part of Monroe St.

The right-hand southbound lane in the 12 and 1300 blocks of Monroe St. in Decatur will remain closed through this Fri. afternoon around 3. Crews are repairing a fire hydrant.

55-Year Prison Sentence Upheld

The 55-year prison sentence for Gregory Houser of Mansfield, has been upheld by a Piatt County judge. Houser was convicted in July of murdering his estranged wife 27 years ago in their rural Mansfield home.

Decatur PD Investigating Shooting

Decatur Police are investigating a shooting near East Lake Shore Dr. and Jasper St. A man who was shot in the head while driving is expected to survive. So far, no arrests and no suspects.

Food Drive in Mt. Zion this Week

The Mt. Zion Lutheran Church holds a Community Food Drive 7am to 6pm this Thurs. Drop off nonperishable items or monetary donations to benefit food pantries in Mt. Zion and Decatur.

Santa’s House Coming to Central Park this Week

Santa’s House will be delivered to Central Park in Decatur this Thurs. morning 7 to 10. During the move, Water St. will be blocked at North Park St. and northbound Water St. will be blocked at Main St.

Mattoon Man Charged with Sexual Abuse of a Juvenile

Mattoon Police arrested Barry Wolfe, 53, on charges of aggrivated criminal sexual abuse and sexual assault on a juvenile. He’s being held in the Coles County Detention Center on $500,000 bond.
