Part of East Chestnut Ave. in Decatur, between 3255 and 3305 East Chestnut, remains closed through around 4 this afternoon. Crews are repairing a culvert.

Woman Tries to Set Boyfriend on Fire

Decatur Police arrested Maneka Smith, 28, at a home on South Hayworth Ave. after she allegedly tried to set her boyfriend on fire by splashing gas on him and throwing a flaming piece of paper at him. She said he cheated on her.

Bill to Ban Kids from Playing Tackle Football

There’s a bill in the Illinois House that would ban children under 12 from playing tackle football. The Dave Duerson Act is aimed at preventing the growing threat of concussions and brain damage.

Tree Being Removed on E. Wood St. Today

One lane in the 1600 to 2000 block of East Wood St. in Decatur will be closed intermittently this morning through around 3:30 this afternoon. Crews are removing a tree.

Hundreds of Gallons of Diesel Fuel Stolen

Christian County Deputies are looking for whoever stole about 700 gallons of dielel fuel. It was taken from two semi-trucks and two fuel storage tanks in Morrisonville.

More Fake Money Passed in Shelbyville

Another counterfeit $100 bill has turned up in Shelbyville – this time at Motormart. The funny-money has also been passed at The Iron Keg and Wilma’s. The fake bills look just like the real thing, except they say “for motion picture use only.”

Acts Signed for Champaign County Fair

Early Voting for March General Primary Election

Early voting for the March General Primary Election begins Feb. 8th in the Macon County Clerk’s Office in Decatur. The office will be open on the county holidays of Lincoln’s Birthday, Feb.12, and President’s Day, Feb.19.

Norfolk Southern Closing Decatur Dispatch Center

No word on exactly when, but Norfolk Southern plans to close eight dispatch centers, including one in Decatur, and combine them into one location in Atlanta. When it does happen, 36 workers in Decatur will be out of a job.
