Hospital Expansion Brings Jobs

More health care jobs. Decatur Memorial’s expansion plans could bring a new jobs — as many as a hundred. The expansion would be between union and main — they’re drawing up plans — the city and county will have to approve the project.

Illinois Native to Perform at this Year’s State Fair

Country superstar, Brett Eldredge, performs Aug. 17th at the state fair in Springfield. Eldredge is originially from Paris, Illinois – one of his albums is titled “Illinois.”

States with the Highest and Lowest Real Estate Tax Rates has compiled a list of states with the highest and lowest real estate tax rates. Hawaii has the lowest – New Jersey, the highest. Illinois has the 2nd highest.

Overcrowding at Christian County Jail

The Christian County Jail was originally built to hold 15 inmates. With remodeling, it can now hold 55 – but the average daily inmate count is around 59. Sheriff Bruce Kettlekamp says expansion is long overdue.

Another Phone Scam in Decatur

Another phone scam – this one is targeting the elderly. If some calls claiming to be a Decatur Police Officer saying pay money on an outstanding warrant or you’ll be arrested – don’t fall for it, it’s a scam.

The Blue Dog Inn on South Sangamon St. in Lincoln is up for sale. The current owners are hoping to retire soon. Legend has it, the Inn which started back in 1979, was named after an old hound dog.

Rain Causes Slow Early Voting in Decatur

Last week’s rainy weather slowed early voting at the Macon County Clerk’s Office in Decatur. As of last Fri, 474 voters cast early voting ballots for the March 20th primary election.
